About Shelley

I share my California home with my husband, daughter, dog, and African Gray parrot. The dog's a chicken and the parrot's a shark. Ironically, the only pet I've ever had who bit the veterinarian was a box turtle. (Don't worry, the turtle alive and well. To my knowledge, so is her veterinarian.)

I love writing about interesting places, off-the-wall characters, and strange events. I've written creatively since I could piece sentences together. I studied journalism in college, where I wrote for the campus paper and magazine. I published a couple items with an actual newspaper way back when. When I graduated, I found writing was something I just couldn't put down.

I love wasting huge amounts of time, money, and labor on my fledgling garden. In my experience, gardening is like most video games. You start out thinking you have one adversary, and figure out how to deal with that one. Then you turn around and find three different kinds of enemies, all lounging and belching in the butchered remains of your strawberries. And your rocket launcher is out of ammo.

Baking bread is also a favorite hobby of mine. It's a nice excuse to eat honey butter.

Favorite author: Terry Pratchett.

Favorite food: Maraschino cherries.

Favorite meal: 40 cloves and a chicken (Dump in a pan 1/4 cup olive oil, cut up chicken, roughly 40 cloves of peeled garlic, fresh or dry thyme, s&p, and roast. Then smush cooked garlic on toasted French bread, drizzle with pan oil, add salt...Heaven. The chicken's good, too.)

Favorite show: I'm the kiss of death. My last favorite was Pushing Daisies. Before that, Starter Wife. Currently, it's Psych. I'm holding my breath...

Favorite movie: Fifth Element.

Favorite flower: Stargazer Lilly.
